A strong, well-led governing body, supportive of the school, its teachers and its mission makes an important contribution to the school's wellbeing and effectiveness. Being a governor is a major piece of Christian and community service. No one should undertake the role lightly. It involves time, energy and a willingness to become involved in the life of the school on a regular basis over at least four years.
Tessa Mason – (Chair of Governors) Co-opted Governor Term of office: 1st November 2014 - 31st October 2018 Appointed by the diocese This is my third year as a governor at St Chads. I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as the Chair of Governors for this school year. My background is successful school headship, leading school learning networks, supporting all schools in the region, in every local authority for the Department for Education, the National College of School Leadership and the Teaching Agency. I have been an LA advisor for school improvement and I am dedicated to ensuring that all children will really benefit from their early years and primary education, be happy and safe at school, and achieve their full potential. I have two grand-children at nursery and primary schools in Leeds, who I see often and who give great joy, and remind me of the important things that really matter to children and their families. I am the link governor for assessment and early years provision, and chair the teaching and learning committee at St Chads.
Andie Wilson (Vice Chair) - Co-opted Governor Term of office: 1st October 2016 - 30th September 2020 Appointed by the Trust I have been a governor at St Chad’s since 2012 and have children at both St Chad’s primary school and Abbey Grange academy. Since joining the governing body I have been involved in supporting the school via curriculum links, class links and getting to know the children through class visits. I am a keen gardener and enjoy sharing that interest practically with the children. Our family moved to Leeds in June 2011 from Tanzania where we spent 9 years developing a dental training programme to teach village health care workers how to extract teeth safely, and also working with a community affected by leprosy to implement a community rehabilitation programme. I graduated as an Occupational Therapist in the UK, moving on later to work as a Personal Assistant. Currently I am the Administrator for Redeemer Church where I am an active member. I count it a privilege to serve as a Governor at St Chad’s and to support the Christian ethos and values held there.
Paul Whitman– Co-opted Governor Term of office: 1st October 2016 - 30th September 2020 Appointed by the Trust I have been a foundation governor at St Chad’s since September 2012. I have a child at the school who is currently in Year 5. I graduated from University with a Law degree and spent 10 years working in Financial Services both in the UK and Africa. For the last 9 years I have worked as a self employed Learning & Development Consultant working in a wide variety of organisations around the world. I have a passion for development and hope to bring some of that experience and passion to my role as school governor.
Andrea Higgins - Parent Governor Term of office: 14th October 2014 - 13th October 2018 I have two daughters; Karah, currently in year 5, and Layla, in year 2. My husband and I are both very pleased with the experiences Karah and Layla have had while attending St. Chad’s. I enjoy being involved in school life and have volunteered on many occasions to come in to school to talk about aspects of Canadian geography, history and culture, and do some related activities. I have a teaching background (PGCE 1997) and a Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Leeds (2002). As part of my Ph.D. thesis, I was able to visit many schools in Leeds and the surrounding area. These opportunities have given me a vantage point from which to appreciate the high educational standards at St. Chad’s. I have taught both in Canada and in Yorkshire at various school levels. Currently, I am running a small interior design company and enjoying time at home with my girls. I am actively involved at St. George’s church and as a Christian I feel that my beliefs are aligned with the school's ethos and values. It is an honour to serve as a one of the governors of St. Chad’s.
Rev. Tom Lusty – Vicar at St Chad's Church, Co-opted Governor Term of office: 1st September 2016 - 31st August 2020 Appointed by the Trust
Zoe Hinchliffe – Co-opted Governor Term of office: 12th March 2016 - 11th March 2020 Appointed by the Trust Link governor for safeguarding
Emma Ogden – Staff governor Term of office: 18th January 2016 - 17th January 2020 Emma is Assistant Head of School and works in nursery and KS1. She has taught at St Chad’s for 10 years. James Clarke – Co-opted Governor Term of office: 15th March 2017 - 14th March 2021 Appointed by the Trust I joined St Chad's as a Governor around Easter 2017 and have found the experience to be both an interesting and rewarding one in my time so far. I was a pupil at Abbey Grange for seven years and returned as an employee for a further six years after studying Law at the University of Sheffield. I remain employed within Abbey MAT, now working as the Head of Pastoral Care at Lightcliffe Academy. I have developed a breadth of knowledge about education through my professional work so it is great to be able to utilise this in any way to help St Chads continue and drive forward in delivering a brilliant education to the children lucky enough to attend here. As someone who works in pastoral care, it is equally fantastic to be involved with a place such as St Chads where the happiness, well-being and nurturing of children is of such paramount importance in school life. Outside of education, I am a big sports fan and can often be found cheering on Leeds United!
