A strong, well-led governing body, supportive of the school, its teachers and its mission makes an important contribution to the school's wellbeing and effectiveness. Being a governor is a major piece of Christian and community service. No one should undertake the role lightly. It involves time, energy and a willingness to become involved in the life of the school on a regular basis over at least four years.
Tessa Mason – (Chair of Governors) Foundation Governor Term of office: 1st November 2014 - 31st October 2018 Appointed by the diocese This is my third year as a governor at St Chads. I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as the Chair of Governors for this school year. My background is successful school headship, leading school learning networks, supporting all schools in the region, in every local authority for the Department for Education, the National College of School Leadership and the Teaching Agency. I have been an LA advisor for school improvement and I am dedicated to ensuring that all children will really benefit from their early years and primary education, be happy and safe at school, and achieve their full potential. I have two grand-children at nursery and primary schools in Leeds, who I see often and who give great joy, and remind me of the important things that really matter to children and their families. I am the link governor for assessment and early years provision, and chair the teaching and learning committee at St Chads.
Paul Whitman (Vice Chair)– Foundation Governor Term of office: 1st October 2012 - 30th September 2016 Appointed by the PCC I have been a foundation governor at St Chad’s since September 2012. I have two children at the school who are currently in Year 2 and Year 5. I graduated from University with a Law degree and spent 10 years working in Financial Services both in the UK and Africa. For the last 9 years I have worked as a self employed Learning & Development Consultant working in a wide variety of organisations around the world. I have a passion for development and hope to bring some of that experience and passion to my role as school governor. I am the link governor for music.
Andrea Higgins - Parent Governor Term of office: 14th October 2014 - 13th October 2018 I have two daughters; Karah, currently in Year 2, and Layla, who we anticipate will be in the Reception class of 2015. My husband and I are both very pleased with the experiences which Karah has had while attending St.Chad’s. I enjoy being involved in school life and have previously volunteered to come in to Karah’s class to talk about aspects of Canadian culture and do some related activities. I have a teaching background (PGCE 1997) and a Ph.D in Health Psychology from Leeds (2002). As part of my Ph.D thesis, I was able to visit many schools in Leeds and the surrounding area. These opportunities have given me a vantage point from which to appreciate the high educational standards at St Chad’s. I have taught both in Canada and in Yorkshire at various school levels, and currently I am enjoying time at home with my girls. I am actively involved in St. George’s church: teaching Sunday school and leading the toddler group on Tuesday mornings. As a Christian I feel that my beliefs are aligned with the school’s ethos and values and it is an honour to serve as one of the governors of St. Chad’s.
Emma Ogden – Teacher governor Term of office: 17th January 2015 - 17th January 2019 I have been a teacher governor since January 2011. This is my first time as a governor and I am enjoying the opportunity to be actively involved in shaping the vision and strategic direction of the school with the governors. I have taught at St.Chad’s for 6 years, I am currently a Year Two teacher but have also taught in Years One and Three at the school. I am an organised person and a good communicator. I have an interest in the life of the whole school and have a passion for ensuring that every child is happy, safe and can achieve their best whilst at St.Chad’s and in their future.
Steve Palmer -Parent Governor Term of office: 23rd January 2015 - 22nd January 2019 I am a parent governor for three reasons: 1) As a parent I am passionate about how the school serves all of our children in their formative years. Through my two children (in Reception and Year 3) I am in contact with parents across the key stages, and available at the school gate each week to enable me to be an effective representative. 2) As a member of St Chad’s Church I am passionate about the school’s status as a church school, how it serves its local community, and the values which underpin it. 3) As an experienced teacher and school leader I bring a range of professional knowledge and skills which I think would be of benefit to the school, as well as contacts with a range of schools and educational structures within the city. Over the past three years I have led a whole school Music Day, arranged for musicians to perform, organised last year’s PTA Auction of Promises and recorded the recent Christmas CD.
Andie Wilson- Foundation Governor Term of office: 1st October 2012 - 30th September 2016 Appointed by the PCC I have four children, two at Abbey Grange CE Academy and two at St Chad’s CE Primary school. We moved to Leeds in June 2011 from Tanzania where we spent 9 years developing a dental training programme to teach village health care workers how to extract teeth safely, and also working with a community affected by leprosy to implement a community rehabilitation programme. My interest in working in Tanzania began in 1994 when I spent two years living in a village helping to set up an orphanage and provide a clean water supply. Prior to this I graduated as an Occupational Therapist in the UK specialising in wheelchairs and special seating systems, moving on later to work as a Personal Assistant. Currently I work part time from home and am looking forward to getting more involved in the school community at St Chad’s as a foundation governor with particular interest in PSHE, Race Equality and Special Educational Needs
